Ready for Some Hot Stuff

I was on a mission yesterday to make a couple of potholders to replace the one that mysteriously disappeared through the portal to another dimension, located in my kitchen.

I also needed to get back into the sewing groove after a couple-week hiatus. Simple projects are good for that.

Since my scraps and strips were overflowing their drawers, I cut a couple muslin foundations, opened a drawer, and started string-piecing. I love string-piecing. It's relaxing and has that element of surprise (usually pleasant) when you get a block done and trimmed.

I made these a little bigger than your standard potholder (a) because they fit my hands better, and (b) so they can double as hot pads on the table. Pot-hot-holders? Okay, maybe not.

I just quilted random lines, which kind of remind me of the Nazca lines in Peru.

I stumbled upon this video last night and...just...wow. This is Gretchen Wilson (country singer--who knew she had those rocker pipes?) absolutely nailing the vocals on the Heart classic, Barracuda. That's Nancy Wilson, original Heart co-founder, on guitar, and the band is none other than Alice in Chains.

Lovely, lovely potholders. I really need to make some--or re-cover some of those semi-scorched looking ones that we have. And yes, your quilting does look the Nazca lines!

I've got to listen to the video. Not a huge country fan, but I do really like Gretchen.

I love your potholders! I really need to make some for myself, and maybe then some for Christmas presents... two of my nephews got married this year and that might be a good Christmas "remembrance" that their wives will enjoy! Thanks for the inspiration...

Cute! Nice video too.

Michelle, be assured that Barracuda is not a country song. :)

Beautiful pot-hot-pad-holders P. I really must get round to making some new pot holders for my kitchen.

Your potholders are awesome! You need to close the portal to the other dimension before it sucks those in (and perhaps other things like spoons, forks, knives, random Pyrex, Norm).

Love the colors and the quilting you did on the potholders! Very cool!

Gretchen pretty much nailed it. It's always fun to watch Nancy. My daughter's band (the Heart tribute) is going to see Heart tonight here in Nashville. Amber met one of the sound guys and is going to hang out backstage. She's pumped!

Wow! Those are really neat! Your work is always so nice. Sew many projects . . . sew little time.

P.S. Barracuda by Gretchen Wilson was really fun.
