Favorite Things Friday - Smorgasbord

Lately, I've been coming up empty on ideas for Favourite Things Friday, virtually turning my pockets inside out, as in "I gots nuthin'."

Today isn't one of those days.  Nope, I've got things popping up my brain like weeds.  Let's have ourselves a smorgasbord, shall we?

My dad's new asparagus bed yielded some tasty spears this week.  I love fresh asparagus!  I've been eating a bit every evening, tossing it into a stir-fry tonight, but my favorite way is pan seared in a tiny bit of olive oil just until it turns bright green but still has a snap to it.  Maybe a bit of cracked pepper on top.  Delish!

A second favorite thing is this little kneeling cushion thingie I picked up from the dollar store recently.  I bought two, actually; one for the garden and one for use when I'm basting a quilt on the kitchen floor, like I did on Wednesday.

These came from Dollar Tree, and I'm sure they're a seasonal thing, here today and gone tomorrow.  Comfort for a dollar—you can't beat that.  Hurry in and get one before they're gone!

Next is this coffee press we found, brand new, at the thrift store.  Now, I know one of my previous Favorite Things was all about tea, and I am a tea drinker 99 percent of the time.  But the hubs has been curious about trying a French press because he's heard coffee tastes better (i.e., not as bitter, which is one of the things I don't like so much about coffee) when made in a press.  For less than the cost of buying a cup of coffee, we nabbed this press to try it out.

Of course we had to Google how to use it—I love the internet—but then it was smooth brewing after that.  I took enough pictures today to do a whole step-by-step tutorial.  But then again, since I'm not a big coffee drinker, I may be the last person on earth to already know how to use one of these.  Anyway, good coffee!

Finally, new (to me) music by The Civil Wars.  I have listened to this song an embarrassing number of times this week.  I just love how their voices blend, the guitar playing, and the hauntingly folky kind of song it is.

I think I need to find a few thrifts store I haven't been to. I never find good stuff like the coffee press. Would love one.

How do you keep your back from hurting while your basting??

Brilliant idea with the knee pad! I never though to use one indoors, but I have several for outdoors (in case the Little Bugs come out to help me and want to use one). I'm definitely going to have to get an indoor one. Awesome find!

I'm not a big coffee drinker, but your coffee press is awesome!

And I loved the picture of the Swedish chef.

I've been having a hard time coming up with FTF too. I've got a good one for tomorrow and one for next week, though. I'm going to have to start keeping a list so that I don't forget what FTF's I want to share. Great post!

Isn´t it weird - sometimes you don´t know what to post about and than today I couldn´t make up my mind ´cause I had three things to post about. Oh well - I guess that is what they call life.
Love asparagus too. Delicious!!

Some weeks a FTF is hard to come up with. I was actually relieved that Shay was unable to do one last week because of Blogger's flakey behavior (sorry Shay). I was completely out of ideas.

My guy is really into coffee. He uses a coffee press when he wants to make one of the dark roasts I won't drink. They do take out some of the bitter.

Love the video. Sounds like someting my guy would really like, so thanks for the Father's Day gift idea.

Some days I can't think of anything I could stretch to a whole post, but I'm quite good at just listing random things that make me smile instead.

love the randomness!

Good finds at the dollar store and thrift store! (although I see you're drinking decaf - coffee is my instant mood-lifter, don't know what I'd do without it - well, I guess I'd be in a bad mood!)

Happy FTF

I am a coffee addict and dont use my plunger enough. I need my fix in a hurry and go instant a lot. You gotta be happy with the price you paid for your press.

I saw your keeling pad and thought "I have to get one of those ". It's a much better idea than kneeling on one of my bed pillows. And a bargain at that price!

And I think it's been well documented vegies and I are not massive mates but I do LOVE asparagus. Maybe I should try to grow some?

I loved this collection of favourite things P. Thanks for dropping past and linking up.

I love asparagus, my favourite is grilled and then served with a little grated parmesan.
I have a coffee press but don't use it very often, I now have a fab coffee machine that uses pods. That certainly was a good buy as was the pad to kneel on.
