Yay! It's Vintage Thingies Thursday! I'm pretty stoked about being able to participate for the first time today. VTT is the inspired idea of Suzanne, aka Colorado Lady, and it's a stellar one at that!
Just in time for Valentine's Day, I spied this cute apron at the local thrift store. It was really wrinkled and just dangling haphazardly from a clip hanger among a dozen or so equally sad-looking pieces. It had to come home with me. A little pressing and it was restored to it's former beauty.
The glass mid-century coffee carafe on the left is by Inland Glass and was another thrift store find, as was the aluminum mini-coffee pot, which reminded me of the one we had on the stove in my childhood. My husband had the bright idea to put a little bike tire light inside the clear top, so when you tap it, it blinks red! Cheap entertainment--I love it!
The little red and white trivet under the glass coffee carafe was made by my dad's uncle's wife probably sometime in the 1940s, I'm guessing. It's crocheted over bottle caps!
The Betty Betz Teen-Age Cookbook was published in 1953. I adore the illustrations in this book, done by the author, Betty Betz. The inside cover reads, "Our girls have good looks and are good cooks!" Well, of course! Sweet, huh? Yes, there's some schmutz on the edge of this page, but that just lets me know the book was loved by its original owner. She even wrote her name and address on the following page. I wonder where Kathryn Anne is now?
Thanks for stopping by for a visit today. I'm really looking forward making the rounds to all of you on VTT!
What great finds! Love the trivet and would be curious to have a closer look. The graphics you find in old books.... funny.
ReplyDeleteHubby is clever! lol
I have seen a lot of hot pads with crochet over bottle caps, but they are usually made to look like a cluster of grapes. That's a cute little coffee pot. I've never seen a little light like that before.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to VTT; I love your vignette. My dad would kill to get his hands on that percolator! His broke last year and he has my mom and the neighbors on patrol for one at yard sales!
ReplyDeleteThat apron is simply adorable! And I love your little coffee percolator too- terrific finds!
ReplyDeleteI can relate to your vintage things today. In fact, I still have my paretns little coffe pot like that. It still makes good coffee, but I do not use anymore.
ReplyDeleteWow, love your sweet apron. What lovely treasures you have shared today. Welcome to VTT!

Beautiful vintage display! The apron and pyrex carafe are my favourites. I think we should get back into making and wearing aprons in the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteSweet. Love the apron! What a cool fine. :)
ReplyDeleteMy MIL had a coffee pot like that, cute idea the red light. The bottle cap crochet thingie rings a bell in my mind too, & of course the apron is a sweet treasure.
ReplyDeleteI love your post today. I am a thrift shopper too. The apron is so sweet with the hearts at the bottom. Love the light(your dh must be a fun guy).
ReplyDeleteThe cook book is a treasure.
Nice to meet you.

Welcome to Vintage Thingies Thursday!! What adorable finds you have shown us. I love thrift stores and goodwill stores, with a little imagination there is no limits to what you can do with great finds....Have a great VTT!
ReplyDeleteOh, I am silly, I just asumed that the cookbook was 'Betty Crocker'! so imagine my surprise when I looked again and saw it is by someone else! hehe!
ReplyDeleteI also love old cookbooks and I love the apron, I suddenly started liking pink, a new one for me.
I'm an apron collector, and I really love the the gingham check with the cross stitched hearts. I have several in my collection that are gingham and are embroidered....the offical name for the embroidery on gingham is 'Chicken Scratch'. Thank you for visiting SuKnitWitty and my VTT Vintage Quilt Top post. I do hope you'll visit again. I bet we have lots of things in SewingCommon....Sue
