Sunday Sundry

When I was growing up, we had a junk drawer in the kitchen. It rattled with various items that didn't really have a place of their own but were important enough to keep handy--rubber bands, twist ties, a hammer and a few nails, a deck of cards, stamps, scissors, pencils needing sharpening, a recipe torn off a box. You know what I mean. Maybe you have one. Maybe one in each room (hi).

I like the idea of doing a weekly miscellaneous post, a place to deposit the bits and pieces that might not have their own spot otherwise.

My friend and fellow quilting blogger Michelle (The Desert Quilter) has had a rough week. While it's not my place to go into the details, I do know that she has very much appreciated your thoughts and prayers. Yet in the midst of everything going on, she took the time to send me a box of birthday goodies.

It was such a sweet gesture, and everything was so pretty, I wanted to cry (happy tears). She sent an assortment of black and white fabrics and an entire yard of red. (How did she know I have been thinking of a black/white/red project?) She also sent some great music to enjoy, and the cutest little pincushion.

Love those ladybugs with the googly eyes! I've had it sitting on my desk for a couple days because it makes me smile. Thank you so much, Michelle!

Last week I won a giveaway, which package arrived yesterday. Look at those sweet '30s reproduction fabrics and that 9-patch! Thank you, Kristen! Though I'm sorry about your beverage mishap, it's made me So Happy! ;)

This came in the mail too this week. No comment.

I've also been meaning to tell you about another package that arrived a couple weeks ago, a gift from my dear friend B. in Munich, Germany. She is not a quilter but is an artist in her own right. We got to know each other as we worked through the book The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron with an online group several years ago, and have kept in touch ever since.

Last year, I made an Amish-style quilt for her using a pattern she had long saved and sent to me at my request. It was a joy working on that quilt for B., and I know she treasures it. I will do a post about it soon.

B. knows how much I love the story of the Gee's Bend quilts. She sent me this wonderful book.

I am enjoying reading the stories of these women and seeing their amazing work. Thanks so much, B.!

The window installers never showed on Wednesday, so my sewing room is still out of commission. We're supposedly on the schedule for first thing Monday morning.

Got my hair highlighted this week. I know that's nothing earthshaking, but it's not something I usually do. Wanna see?

My daughter is on vacation for a few days so I get to pet-sit her cat, Brooklyn (whom we call Keaky...or is it spelled Kiki?) He loves people and is so affectionate.

But first, he will paw your shoes.


We're not sure if he wants you to take them off and stay awhile, or if it just makes a handy scratching post (he's declawed so it doesn't do any harm). He's such a good kitty. Speaking of cats, have you seen this? Too funny!
