Stepping Stones Quilt

As much as I like starting things—often multiple things at once—there is nothing like the feeling of finishing something.  Having gotten the binding sewn on Saturday, this Stepping Stones quilt is officially...dun-dun-dun...done!

You know what I like about blogging?  I can go back and read an older post to refresh my memory!  I had finished this quilt top back in February and mentioned it way back on one of my first posts, post number two, to be exact.

I pieced this on Viv, my vintage Singer 301—a fact I had completely forgotten until I reread the old post.  Then the top went to live at the long arm quilter's house for several months.

I selected an all-over panto from one of her samples, and I really like how it turned out.  It's about 90 x 90 square and fits nicely on a queen size bed.

The backing is pieced, and I did a medallion in the center with an extra block and some flying geese. The colors are not quite true in these pictures of the backing. It's actually richer looking.

It's pretty traditional looking, but that's okay; I like both modern and traditional.  Not sure yet if I'll keep it, gift it, or sell it.

I'm looking forward to finishing a few more UFOs or WIPs, or whatever you want to call them, in the next couple months.  Wouldn't it be nice to start the new year with a clean slate?

Yeah, like that'll happen!

  3. Standing with jaw open and eyes glazed over in terror: the new year with a clean slate? I'll have to work 40 hours a week from now until the new year 2012 to make that happen. I am a UFO landing pad.

OK, about your quilt. Three words: FAB-U-LOUS! I love the colors and the fun snowball blocks alternating with patchy blocks. Technically, I think it is reversible, with all that piecing going on on the back. Beautiful.

And to your plans about what to do with it, I certainly don't think I could bear to sell it. Giving it as a gift would be an option, but it would have to be someone really special. I think I'd have to keep it, though. That is, if it were me ;).

Love the quilt! You do beautiful work, P.

  4. P.S. I love that swirly fabric you used for binding and the chocolate brown with mint swirls in it you used in the checkers and as a border. I used that same fabric for an apron. Love it!

  5. What a great quilt! And I love love love the back.... I'd dearly love to finish up all my UFO's - I don't have that many, but unless I can give them for Christmas presents, I don't think it's going to happen! But it's a great thought.....

  8. Love the mint accents. The quilting panto is perfect for this quilt too. (Totally agree there's nothing like a finish - I should try for a few more before years end!)
