This is the first free-motion quilted project I have done, and boy, what an experience! It's done, though, and hopefully it'll only get better from here.
I'll spare you the pointing out of many flaws, as you will be able to see them for yourself in these pictures.

To continue the theme, I give you...Random thoughts as I finished stippling this table runner:
- Are we there yet?
- I haven't felt this klutzy since 7th grade gym class.
- ...or this morning when I couldn't open the Frangelico bottle.
- Hey, my machine is singing in the same key as the guy on this song...except I'm a little pitchy.
- Okay, REALLY pitchy.
- I just got booted off Sewing Idol.
- Going with the flow...not knowing where the flow is going...
- Are we THERE yet?
- This feels like learning to drive, minus the parent with the imaginary brake in the passenger seat.
- And the point is to NOT drive in a straight line.
- In fact, it's kind of like driving as if you were under the influence.
- Which I kind of wish I were right now.
- Can it be? The end is near!
- It's been real, and it's been fun, but it hasn't been...
- (checking the back) WHAT THE ----?
- Where is that ding-dang seam ripper!
- (fixing mistake) This ought to do it.
- Aaaaand the bobbin runs out.
- Close enough for rock and roll!
- B-Double E-Double R-U-N...BEER RUN!
You silly gal! I don't see one single flaw. In fact, your stippling looks terrific. And what a beautiful runner. :-)

My mom just read your random stippling thoughts. We were both cracking up. As newbie FMQer's ourselves, all we can say is you've summed up our sentiments exactly!

Now I'm going to tell you what I tell my students: remember only you look at your work with your nose touching it! Everyone else looks at the entire piece...and this looks terrific!
You totally made me laugh! I think I like the back with that big yellow border even better than the front, nice job!

ReplyDeleteI think you just joined the ranks of official FM Quilters completely leaving me behind. Your runner makes it look like you've been doing this forever. Gorgeous. My first thought was "Hmnnn I think P has been pulling our legs about this being her first FM attempt"
The challenge is on. I'll do one FM project by the end of June. It'll probably be a pot holder. And I'm printing out your random thoughts and putting them on the wall above my sewing machine so I know what to say and think while I'm doing it.
Not only did your runner come out great, but your writing is hilarious! I totally relate! Very funny!

So what kind of beer was it? Does it matter? LOL I loved part 1 an 2. I love it when we can laugh at ourselves. It looks great!

ReplyDeleteYour runner looks great! FM quilting does take some practice to feel comfortable. It does get easier and more relaxing. Small projects like table runners are great to practice on :)
