Now that Downton Abbey Season 2 has wrapped, are you suffering withdrawals? You are not alone. Google "Downton Abbey withdrawals" and you'll get over a million hits. Entertainment Weekly did a piece on a reading list for fans of the series. Some of the titles sounded interesting.
As for me, I'm already onto something likewise compelling, the new series "Awake" on NBC, starring Jason Isaacs (otherwise known to Harry Potter movie fans as Lucius Malfoy).
Is it getting hot in here?
Hormones aside, this is an fascinating story line (click on the photo to read EW's synopsis, which says it better than I could).
In case you missed the premier on Thursday, the entire first episode is available to watch online at nbc.com (that link will take you directly to the video premier episode). You might also want to check your "On Demand" TV programming. My local cable company has it available through 3/5/12. I'm telling you, I was hooked within minutes.
What are you watching, reading, or listening to lately?
And Sew it Goes
There was a little bit of sewing yesterday, as I finished sewing together the wall hanging or table mat sized A Patch of Sun and made a backing for it too.
I decided to do a disappearing nine patch for the back from some colorful scraps.
Sort of looks like an Easter basket exploded, doesn't it?
I'm also working on a backing for the Hubcap Diamond Star Halo quilt, using some of the leftover kaleidoscope triangle cuts.
Sweet Nothings
Every day, as part of my job, I listen to people summarize various types of business matters. As you can imagine, there is a certain amount of jargon involved. What is amusing to me (or annoying, depending on the day), is the buzzword phraseology that is bandied about, which essentially means nothing. For instance:
"At the end of the day, I told him we'd drill down and do some due diligence and then circle back and go from there, and then we should be good to go."
If you say so, Chief. Of course, what is actually meant may be more along the lines of, "We will investigate Situation X, call So-and-So back to discuss the information obtained, and then make a decision." I'm thinking a little more specificity might be appropriate in corporate America, but what do I know. In the meantime, I'm creating more Autotext entries.
Stevie Ray Vaughan doesn't need any stinkin' words, yet I understand him completely.

Yes, I am having withdrawal from Downton Abbey, and you know who I have to thank for it????? YOU!! Oh well - I'll give Awake a try. I'm also going back and watching reruns of X-Files just to fill the time. I love your Patch of Sun, and yes, the back looks like an Easter basket exploded - but it's awfully pretty!
Didn't Downton Abbey just start??? How could it be over already? I have been so unhappy about it!!! Thanks for recommending Awake - I'll try it. I love your yellow blocks - very springlike & cheery!!!
fortunately for me, I just started watching Downton Abbey and can watch it on my Kindle Fire ..
You are so good. You are so good that the backs of your pieces look better than most people's fronts.
A little birdie told me something, actually gave me something. No that's not right, some one gave me a little bird, no not "the" bird, some cute little birds. Wait....sigh.
Leaves or figs, or whatever they are too. Look out contemporary quilting, here I come!
Thank you!
As far as work, be glad you hear these things verbally. If they actually wrote them down they would probably be done like texting with every other letter missing, and "x" in every other word.
It seems Sarah and I can both thank you for our DA withdrawals! I'm catching up on missed episodes of Project Runway and watching some other series dramas on Netflix.
Patch of Sun is just the ticket for this time of year. And I love that paisley on the back:)
I had to google Autotext. I must be more out of the loop than I suspected!
Add me to your Downton Abbey converts. Only I'm a season behind, as I just found it on Netflix. I really like your patch of sun block. So cheery, and look at those points!
:( :( :( It hasn't even come here for me to be sad the season is over! I'm waiting to see if we'll get Season 1 now that Season 2 is over-if not, I'll have to get the DVDs.
We're getting Smash...not really the same thing at all.
Awake is wonderful yes mam!
I see your other kaleidescope quilt in the background there too next to the pretty sunshine block:)
The second series of Downton Abbey hasn’t even started here yet ...I wish it would hurry up!
I think the exploding Easter basket looks mighty fine.
Sometimes at work I play bullshit bingo in meetings. That’s where you make a list of all those cringe worthy buzz words and cross them off as someone says them . If all of them get crossed off you have to jump up and scream bingo. Makes meetings a LOT more interesting.
Never watched it so cant say that I am. The block looks mini looks amazing!! I love the colours and the use of 2 different patterns =D
So leading the life of Dilbert in some ways. :) I love that Sunshine block.
For all of you Downton Abbey fans, PBS started a new series last Sunday night. It is re-make (2008) of Sense & Sensibility by Jane Austen and it stars Dan Stevens as Edward Farres (spelling? on both last names). Dan is the actor who plays Matthew Crawley in Downton Abbey. Being a big Jane Austen fan, I was really excited to see this!!
Love that "guys I like" post tag. I think just about everyone on your list is on my too. Jason Issac is so . . . well, he makes Lucius Malfoy . . . sexy. I haven't watched Awake yet, but it is scheduled on my DVR and the first episode is waiting for me (maybe two now?). Haven't watched Downton Abbey yet. I started recording mid-season after your first post about it, but have been waiting for Mr. Bug to watch an episode or two (from the first season on Netflix streaming) to see if he wants to watch with me, or it is will just be for me to watch.
Also, still in love with your A Patch of Sun. Beautiful! And the back is so fun too!
Loved the Stevie Ray Vaughn.

I meant to catch "Awake" so thanks for the reminder!
As for Stevie...., Amen to that Sistah! And yeah, it's getting hot in here. ;-)
