Sunday Sundry - Vol. 44

Do you know someone who seems to have their own conception of time?  You say, "Let's get together at 11:00," and they say, "Okay, sure," and now it's 11:53 and they're still not here?  I'm having one of those moments.

But in the meantime, I did finished one of my jobs for today and now I'm starting a post I didn't think would happen.  So I've got that going for me...which is nice.
This past week, I sent off my De-Stash 4 Malawi package.  I didn't measure, but my rough estimate is that I packed at least 15 yards of fabric into the box.  Click the link on the sidebar to learn more.  It feels good to lighten the stash and do something beneficial for others at the same time.

Tabatha at Bending Pins gave me a Versatile Blogger award this past week.  I appreciate that!  Instead of naming others to pass it on to, because I think you're all fabulous and deserve it, I'm just going to skip the usual rules and do the fun, "7 Things About Yourself People May Not Know" part.

But first, I have to call the person I'm waiting on to see what's up...

Okay, done.  She is on her way and thought I had said noon.  Because eleven sounds a lot like noon, I guess.  Sisters...gotta love 'em.

[Tick-tock, time passes...now it's later in the day.]

We're back from our trip to the outlet mall.  I am pretty excited about these shoes being available in my size.

I usually don't wear any kind of heel, but they're comfortable, and I checked and will still be able to clear doorways with a couple inches to spare, so it's all good.  They look nice with jeans.  I won't bore you the other two pair I bought because they're just sensible shoes, one being waterproof for slogging to work in when it's wet.

Yesterday, we stopped by Goodwill and found a couple cheap thrills.  The first one is a bit on the creepy side, but Norm and I stared at it long enough, we ultimately had to have it (though we are still not sure why).  Don't look at his eyes too closely, or you may suddenly want a burger or an ice cream cone with a twist like the hairdo.  Or maybe you'll feel compelled to make yourself a snazzy pair of red checkered overalls.  No?  Okay, then.  He's a bank, and to remove the money you pop his head off, which some of you may be wanting to do right now, if he's giving you the heebie-jeebies.
At the thrift store, I picked out a little lemon shaped, yellow glass dish and some pins.
I love pins!  Both seemed appropriate for this time of year.  I think the skull and bones may constitute my Halloween costume.  I really know how to party, huh?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot the "7 Things" list!  Okay, here we go:

1.  I do a pretty good Elmer Fudd impression, but my favorite Looney Tunes character is Foghorn Leghorn.  "Boy, I say, boy!  Pay attention when I'm talkin' to ya, son..."

2.  I cannot sit still when I listen to this song.  I have to bounce my leg or something.

3.  I used to jump rope for exercise when I was in college.  I also smoked cigarettes at that time.  Yeah, that made sense.

4.  I don't wear a wedding ring anymore.  I developed a cyst on the PIP joint of my ring finger so I stopped wearing it.  Hubs doesn't wear his either for work reasons.  We're cool with that.

5.  I am curious about a lot of things, but there are some things I just don't want to know.  I can't decide which category the enigma that is Donald Trump's hair fits into.

6.  I have never seen most of the classic horror movies, and I like it that way.  My brain has a hard time burying disturbing images once they get in.

7.  I've never had laughing gas, but I've had gas that made me laugh.

And with that, I'm out of here!  Keep smiling!

Me-Me-Meme: A-Z

While work on the kaleidoscope blocks continues at a pace of a couple blocks a day, I thought I'd borrow Elizabeth's A-Z meme.  Don't want to burn you all out on blocks in progress—or do you like progress pics?  Well, here's one I really like:

I'm planning to have the top done by the first part of next week.  Please stay tuned.

Anyway, meme.  A to Z, which just refers to the alphabet and not everything you ever wanted to know, because, well, that's what Facebook is for, right?  Not that I'd know.  I'm one of those relics who doesn't have a Facebook page.

Age:  "I am every age that I have ever been."  ~Madeleine L'Engle
Bed size:  Queen (and all mine!)
Chore that you hate:  Cleaning the tub/shower, followed closely by floors.
Dogs:  Dogs are great.  I just don't like to hear them barking nonstop (see Pet Peeve).
Essential start to your day:  The internet.
Favorite color:  Teal blue and peacock blue.  I guess that's two, but they're pretty close.
Gold or Silver:  Gold, but silver is nice too.  I'm not that much of a jewelry wearer anymore, but I admire it on others.
Height:  6'2-3/4" (which I reserve the right to round down to 6'2").
Instruments you play:  Piano and guitar, although not regularly anymore. Someone once told me that playing an instrument was like walking up an escalator that's going down—you've got to keep at it to get anywhere.  So true of many things.
Job title:  I peck out a living.  Okay, that's a description not a title.  So I'm a pecker?  No, that doesn't sound right.
Kids:  One lovely, young adult daughter.
Live:  In a house.  On a street.  In a town.  Sounds like the voiceover for a movie trailer, doesn't it?
Mother's name:  A rather unique one that rhymed with three of her four sisters.  She didn't use her first name either, just the initial.
Nicknames:  As if I'd tell!
Overnight hospital stays:  One or two as a child, and another for a C-section.
Pet peeve:  Sounds that show no sign of ending soon:  Incessant barking, snoring, colicky babies, blatherers, trance music, repetitive electronica, and Enya, to name a few.  Also, over-the-top action sequences in movies; I tend to zone out.
Quote from a movie:  "That rug really tied the room together."  ~The Big Lebowski
Right or left handed:  Right.
Siblings:  One older sister, two younger brothers.  I am a middle child.
Time you wake up:  When peeing seems like an important thing to do.
Underwear:  You betcha.
Vegetable you hate:  I would say that although I don't hate them, radishes do not particularly like me.
What makes you run late:  I am pretty punctual, but when I'm late it's due to my own lollygagging.
X-Rays you've had:  Head, teeth, chest, hands, pelvis, kidneys-ureter-bladder, lumbar spine, knees.  The least fun was the pelvic after a long labor and hours of pushing.  I may or may not have arm-wrestled a nurse in an effort to hold someone's hand.  You try holding still when everything in you is contracting.  Breathe, my butt.  Thankfully, this proved the necessity for a C-section.  And I have never looked forward to general anesthesia so much.
Yummy food that you make:  Most everything.  Except those blueberry scones I made recently.
Zoo animal:  Big cats—lions, tigers, pumas, leopards, etc.  But not when I recurrently dream about them in my house, and they're acting like they own the place.  I'm sure there's some deeper meaning there, but I don't know what it is!

If this isn't already TMI, ask me a burning question in the comments and I'll try to answer it (within reason, of course).  And feel free to borrow the meme!

The Things I Do for You, Mrs. P.

Mrs. P of Quilting in my Pyjamas, talks about her style today, specifically, what does your wardrobe say about you.  Well, I don't even want to know what mine says about me because it's probably a dirty liar McLiar-pants.

But then she asked what we're wearing as we read said post.  I took it as a dare.

This is also representative of what I wear to work every day—elastic-waist jammy pants, long-sleeved t-shirt, and a hoodie or pullover over that.  Can you tell I work two of three jobs from home?  This afternoon, however, I'll be dressed in office casual (dark slacks, sweater set, low-heeled dress shoes) as I chat with insurance reps from somewhere outside my dining room.

How about you?  What are you wearing?

Favorite Things Friday - The Basics

(If you're looking for the Blogger's Quilt Festival post, it's here.)

Sometimes I get the best ideas in the shower.  Other times, I just get ideas— good, bad, whacky, fleeting.  This week's FTF idea came to me in the shower, and I'm not even going to think about what category it belongs in.

When it comes right down to it, we all use a lot of our favorite things before anybody ever sees us in public.  You know, the basics—the kind of face or body wash we use, our favorite makeup products, even our unmentionables (oh, you know I'm going to go there).

Actually, I'm kind of short on time again today, so I'll let a few photos do most of the talking.  And no, I'm not being paid to endorse anything here.  These are just some of my favorite basics.

I used to love Bath & Body's Japanese Cherry Blossom body wash, but then I ran out and shortly thereafter started reacting to other body wash products in a most unpleasant way.  So I've had to scale back on the scents and ingredients in favor of a bar for sensitive skin.  I don't like that I have become such a delicate flower, but I do like not feeling irritated.  Or, you know, any more irritated than usual.

My makeup routine is pretty minimalist, I think.  Well, I guess compared to no makeup, it's not, but I prefer not to scare people if I can help it.  And Bare Minerals?  Rocks.

I have very few requirements in hair products, but one most important is that it doesn't strip my color (L'Oreal Healthy Look + salon highlights).  Because I am somewhat lazy and don't like to color any more than I absolutely have to.  Fructis smells good too, which is a plus.

And, finally, the unmentionables, mentioned.  TMI?  I really only wear the knee-his once or twice a week.  The rest of the time it's Hanes crew socks, the shorty ones that come just above your shoe.  I didn't have time to run down to the clean laundry basket and find a pair for you.

Now go on over to Quilting in My Pyjamas and have a look at what others are saying about their Favourite Things!
