Sunday Sundry - Vol. 13

Are you ready for some randomness?  It's Sunday Sundry time once again, so let's see what comes out my fingertips as I type this post.

They Say It's Your Birthday
Twenty-three years ago yesterday, I was rendered blissfully unconscious after a harrowing multi-day labor and delivery attempt, and our beautiful daughter M. was surgically assisted into this world.  It had been determined just minutes before the C-section that she was a brow presentation, which happens in about 1 in 1,000 births.  Thankfully, the bruises on her forehead healed and the blood-red whites of her eyes returned to normal within a week.  And look at her now.

I hope she doesn't mind me sharing this photo.  This was at a Halloween party a week ago.  Can you guess who she went as?  Hint:  She can see Russia from her house.  M.'s boyfriend T. was her Security Escort (Secret Service).  Nice touch with the ear bud in his left ear.  I am no fan of SP, but I am a huge fan of M. and T., and I thought this was cute.

So, Sewing
For her birthday, I made M. a couple of pairs of pajama pants, which she always appreciates.  I made a pair for myself too while I was at it.  Since I work two of my three jobs from home, these are also known as work pants.  :)

Long-legged gals can't just buy jammies off the rack.  Check this out.  This is my length adjustment for the PJs.

That is an additional 7 inches for M. and 7-1/2 inches for me.  And I just serge the edge and turn under about 1-1/4 inches for a hem.  We all have to do what we have to do, right?  And they sure are comfy.

Favorite pattern for these.  Is 1980 considered vintage yet?

Home Ick
I'm usually a decent cook, but last night's dinner went straight into the garbage can.  I am not even kidding.  Completely inedible.  Think shoe leather.  It was wild game, and despite 8 hours worth of marinade time, this fowl was just plain foul.  Looking to shed a few pounds?  This would be guaranteed to make you lose your appetite, if not what's left of your lunch.

Quick, a Palate Cleanser!
Let's change the subject to something more pleasant—Pyrex!  I posted about this week's reorganization project over on The Pyrex Collective, but here's a quick before and after:

Unpacked
Last week, I helped my dad go through some boxes he'd moved here in the spring, and there were some very interesting contents, much of which was my late mother's.  Lots of crafting and sewing paraphernalia, keepsakes from her family, old photos, quilts, various primitive antiques, all of them very humble but together telling a rich family story.

This, for instance, is a homemade cattle call that belonged to my grandfather, my mom's dad.  He made it out of a hollowed out cow horn.  It still works, too.  You blow it like a trumpet.

Here's my grandpa in the 1920s.

An old baby quilt, stained and tattered, but probably made by mom (or grandma) for my brother Russ.  It's just a simple 9-patch, made back in the days when you didn't know ahead of time whether it would be a boy or girl, so the quilt maker incorporated both blue and pink.

I'll probably talk more about some of the other interesting things in those boxes in the months to come, but I've run out of time and attention span this morning.  Hope you have a great day, a good week ahead, and thanks for visiting!

Happy Birthday to your daughter! I love their Halloween outfits...very clever!
I love seeing all of your Pyrex. The turquoise pieces grouped together look wonderful.
Great photo of your grandfather....those are my favorite kind of pictures.
Have a great week (working in those comfy pajamas)

If you're ever in a pinch and do have to buy PJ's off the rack, you can say the pants are 'cropped.' This might work best in spring and summer.

I love your Pyrex on display. I especially love the turquoise pieces in the book case. Those look really swanky!

Both my babies were c-section. Yours is cute! Even dressed as SP (she's now my favorite either). I love reading your Sunday Sundries. It is fun to get to know you and hear about what is going on in your life. I enjoyed looking through the old memories in those boxes. Hope you have had a nice, relaxing weekend.

Not being familiar with US politics I think I know who M is but I'm not sure. I think M and T look cute too. Happy Birthday for yesterday M and well done Mom for raising such a fine upsatnding ctizen(I supect she has your sense of humour too P)

What will you do when you wake up one day to find pyrex has taken over your house? Just asking..

For once I'm not lamenting the fact I'm five feet 6 inches tall. If any pyjama issues exist here it's that I have to hack a couple of inches off the bottom!

Love your family treasures.

"Upstanding" "citizen" and "suspect " just to prove I can spell. It's been a long day here and I was too lazy to proof as usual.

I can't believe your baby is 23! She is such a beautiful young lady! She has her mother's smile!

Happy Birthday, M! She does look like you. :)

My boys were C-section babies, too. Just happy we have that option in this modern world or mom and/or baby might not make it.

I wish I had your height problem, at 5ft 2 1/2 everything is always too long. I usually try to buy cropped pants, they are usually long enough and I don't have to take them up.
Love the aqua pyrex, it looks great on those shelves.

M & T are just adorable. :-)

Great Pyrex makeover! Love the turquoise collection in the brick shelves especially.

I want PJs with kitties on them! I need to make some...someday.
