Whoop-Whoop Friday - Heart Block

What I made last night (not counting the mess from rummaging through the scrap box):

For fellow quilt blogger Mary Lou, whose son passed away unexpectedly a little over a week ago.  I cannot imagine the pain of such a loss.  She seems to be drawing much strength from her faith, but it still has to be tremendously difficult.  I'll be sending many thoughts and prayers along with this block.

After refreshing my memory of how to paper piece by re-watching Becky's videos that she made for the paper pieced quilt-along, I downloaded one of Sandi's free foundation pieced heart blocks (scroll down the page a bit).  This time I traced the design onto good old wax paper, which worked fine and tore away easily at the end.  The fabric in the heart block is from Jenny, who cleaned out her small scraps a couple months ago, and, for the cost of postage, sent me some great pieces.

Quilt bloggers are such a generous group, sharing time, talent, treasure, and gestures of encouragement and support.  It's good that we can pay it forward.

The block is beautiful, P.~ You are a dear to make that for your quilt buddy. I went to her blog and read about her son. Only 17! I happened to 'google' Samuel and found he had a blog too. He was so grounded. His fun-loving spirit shows in his writing. What an inspiration he must've been to his family and friends. Thanks for sharing today. Happy Friday! :o)

The heart block you sent last week, and the others that were sent, seem to be helping Mary Lou. What a thoughtful thing for you to do. Nice blocks, too.
